Some of you might be nervous to attend as you do not know what to expect on arrival and how the night will go. Here is a breakdown of how we work so that there are no surprises.
Arriving: You can arrive after 6:45pm when our doors open. You can ring on the doorbell and someone will let you in. There is designated parking next to the building.
When you enter the building, you will enter the lobby. In this lobby you will find toilets to the left, the lounge to the right and the main hall in front. There are also kitchen facilities accessible from the lounge and hall. You are free to use these at any point during the evening. On arrival you will be able to sign in. Your first 2 games, you do not have to pay anything! We will then introduce you to your DM and the table you will be sitting at. This could be in the main hall or lounge. Either way, we will show you where you will be.
It’s important that you arrive before 7pm as most people are sat down then at their tables and are ready to play. It also gives you time to sort refreshments for yourself and use the toilet before the game starts. There is a local corner shop and kebab shop meaning you can get snacks and refreshments. We do serve hot drinks and squash for free.
Game playing: When you sit down at your seat, you can set yourself up for your game, getting out your dice, miniatures, player’s handbook. If you are new to the game entirely, we can help you with character sheets, dice and miniatures. You do not need to worry about buying anything.
Your DM, also known as your dungeon master, will run your game for about 3 hours. Sometimes they might finish just a little before 10pm if they know that you’re approaching a battle but there’s not enough time to complete the battle.
Your DM will likely choose to pause for a short break. This is down to the DM to decide when is a good time to pause and they will usually check in with the group to see when they want to have a break.
It is normal for DMs to create non playing characters for your game and to put on voices for the characters to make the game more realistic. You are also welcome to do this but this is not expected.
If you need to go to the toilet during the game that is fine. The game is played with turn taking for each player.
End of the night: Once the game has ended, it will be time to clear away. We would appreciate if you could help us to tidy away tables, bin any rubbish and wash up anything that you have used. You are free to go when you’re ready!
