Are we ever closed? Yes, some Fridays we might not be open. This is often when there are holidays like Christmas or Easter, or multiple DMs need a break as we are all volunteers. However, we advertise these closures on our Facebook Group and on here. Sometimes your specific table may decide to have the week off because you’re all busy with work or family commitments. This is not often and will be down to the group consensus.
Do you have accessible facilities? Yes, we have an accessible toilet (radar key not needed) and the premises is all on one level. There are no stairs to navigate. Doors to the hall open out.
Is there parking? Yes, there are two car parks, one next to the hall and one across the road from the hall. To help the planet car sharing, where possible, is recommended. There is disabled parking at the front of the building but you will need to display a blue badge.
What other public transport is there? You can get a train to Bearsted and walk to Downswood Community Association. Alternatively, you can get the number 510 bus from Maidstone Centre to the Rose Pub in Bearsted followed by a 16 minute walk.
Do i need to bring anything for DnD? If you’re new, you can bring a pencil/pen and paper. We can supply you with dice and character sheets. DMs can help you in forming your character and getting started. If you’re experienced, feel free to bring your kit.
Should I book in advance? Yes, please contact us first to confirm spaces for gaming as have only so many tables and we have to ensure that we have the right numbers.
If you’re not for profit, then why do i have to pay? The request of payment is to ensure that longevity and sustainability of the club. Beyond hall fees, much of the money we receive will be put back into the group to buy things like: dice for new players, refreshments, campaigns, miniatures and maps.
As we grow as a group, there are also certain expectations of us to ensure that we are keeping everyone safe. This includes insurance, first aid kits, first aid training, DBS checks for committee members, safeguarding training, deep cleaning of facilities.
Can children under 11 attend? Given the time of the evening that we play and the skills required to participate in DnD, we would not seek to invite children under 11 to play DnD in our group. Whilst most of our adult attendees are well behaved, the excitement of the game can sometimes mean a few naughty words might slip out. In the future, we may be able to explore gaming events that are suited to under 11s. Parent/carer supervision will be required.
Why do you require for under 18s to be supervised by a parent/carer? Given that we have a mix of young people and adults in attendance, we feel that its appropriate for there to be adult oversight for young people and this should come from a caregiver who has responsibility for that young person. Whilst some of our adults in the group have DBS checks, it is an extra safety measure for the group to ensure all young people are able to speak to someone that they trust if they have any worries about anything that happens at the club. For accompanying caregivers, we do provide free tea, coffee and snacks. We can provide tables and chairs for you to work on your laptop or read your book so that you can use this time productively as well.
I am a young person, who wants to attend but my caregiver cannot come with me to the game, will i still be able to come? We appreciate that not all parents and carers can come with young people for activities so in that instance we will need to speak with your caregiver about the arrangements for you so that we can ensure that you are safe and well when attending our group.
